Overview
When teeth become worn, decayed, or broken, they often need the protection of a custom dental crown. These common dental restorations, also known as caps, fit over individual teeth to return strength, function, and a natural-looking appearance to the smile. Rising seamlessly from the gumline, dental crowns are placed to restore damaged teeth and complete single dental implant procedures for tooth replacement. At PDA Dental, our team of dentists is thrilled to offer the convenience of same-day dental crowns using advanced CAD/CAM technology. We can help you determine if this all-ceramic option or another type of crown material is best suited to meet your oral health needs. To receive more information on bringing health and function back to your smile with same-day dental crowns or other options, we invite you to schedule a visit at PDA Dental in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, NY today.
Dental Crowns Reviews
Best Candidates for Dental Crowns
Our dentists may recommend dental crowns to address several types of restorative and cosmetic dentistry needs:
- Moderate tooth decay
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Discolored or misshapen teeth
- Replacement of large fillings
- Protection for root canal-treated teeth
- Completion of a single dental implant
Individual crown units may also be fused together to form a dental bridge, which can then be used to replace a missing tooth. Our team is exceptionally skilled at customizing crowns according to the precise shape, size, and color to fit naturally and comfortably within your smile. While we commonly place same-day crowns made of all-porcelain material to mimic the natural aesthetics of enamel, there may be instances where we recommend porcelain fused to metal or all metal (such as gold) materials to better meet your unique needs and goals.
What To Expect
Before getting started, our team will ensure your comfort by numbing the affected tooth and surrounding area. The damaged portion of the tooth will then be gently removed and a material will be used to build up and strengthen its structure. Using a 3D intraoral scanner, a digital impression will be taken of your prepared tooth and transmitted to a state-of-the-art CAD/CAM software system. After our dentists design your new crown, it will be created by our on-site milling machine while you relax in the comfort of our modern facility. A temporary crown may be placed and worn for 1 – 2 weeks if your dental crown is being fabricated in one of our partner dental labs. When your new crown is ready, it will be bonded securely into place and adjusted as needed for a comfortable bite.
Recovery
After your crown visit, it is best to avoid eating until the numbness has completely worn off and full sensation has returned. You may notice slight tooth sensitivity and inflammation in the gums surrounding your crown. While these symptoms should diminish over the next few days, they can often be relieved with nonprescription anti-inflammatory medication. Instructions on how to care for your crown, including tips on ideal brushing and flossing techniques, will be provided by our friendly staff. When cared for properly, however, dental crowns can last for a number of years. During your preventive care visits at PDA Dental, our team will evaluate the function and condition of your crown. Please get in touch with our office right away if your crown feels loose or becomes dislodged at any point. We encourage you to avoid attempting to repair or replace it on your own, as doing so could damage your tooth or crown and lead to greater treatment needs.
Insurance Coverage
Dental crowns are often covered in part by a number of dental insurance plans. Our financial coordinator will review your specific coverage and help you maximize your insurance benefits. PDA Dental is pleased to accept a number of PPO dental plans along with an array of convenient payment options, including special financing through CareCredit®.
