Regular oral exams are an integral part of preventive dental care and an excellent way to remain proactive in your efforts to establish good oral hygiene. Dental exams allow our skilled team of dentists to comprehensively evaluate your oral hygiene and health to identify dental issues early, often allowing for a more conservative approach to restorative care. Typically performed during your dental cleaning visits to PDADental, a dental examination screens for signs of tooth decay (cavities), periodontal (gum) disease, oral cancer, damaged restorations, and other oral health concerns. During dental exams, our team of experienced dentists also evaluates your jaw joint function and bite and takes digital x-rays to check the health of your tooth roots, jawbone, and structures we cannot see when examining your mouth. For more information on comprehensive exams from our full-service practice in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, NY, talk to our friendly team today.
Oral Cancer Screening
Our team is committed to overall oral health and wellness and performs an oral cancer screening during each dental exam. Oral cancer screenings involve a thorough assessment of your lips, gums, back of the mouth, throat, palate, cheeks, tongue, and floor of the mouth. We will also palpate your salivary glands, neck, and jaw and thorough assessment for any areas of concern. Any abnormal or suspicious tissues, such as sores, lesions, bumps, or nodules, may be further investigated through a biopsy or examination from our oral and maxillofacial surgery specialist.
Dental Exam Reviews
"I've seen Dr. Quiong and Dr. Galler at Premier Dental and I had great experiences with both doctors! What I love about this practice is they're very efficient. They don't waste any time. I was invited back into an exam room almost immediately after I arrived at the office. Dr. Quiong's cleaning was thorough and quick and she answered any questions I had with patience and without hesitation. Dr. Galler went out of his way to fit me in for an early morning Invisalign consultation. Knowing little to nothing about Invisalign, I walked out of Dr. Galler's office feeling like an expert. He carefully fit my Invisalign trays and then meticulously explained exactly how my treatment would work and the possible outcomes or effects of my choices on how to go about wearing Invisalign. He is very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. I would feel comfortable calling Dr. Galler with a follow-up question and/or making another appointment for any inquiries given his welcoming and helpful attitude."- S.F. / Yelp / Feb 05, 2013
"I did my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Steven Ritholtz, and I couldn't be happier with the results! I had a particularly tight schedule because I was hoping to see some improvements in time for my wedding. Dr. Ritholtz and his team were able to accommodate my timeline needs, and I was thrilled with how my teeth looked on my wedding day and in photos of the day. The PDA dental team is responsive, professional, and easy to work with. I highly recommend them for Invisalign treatment."- G.T. / Yelp / Oct 16, 2019
"I'm really happy with this dental group. Dr. Danielle Danzi has become my dentist and I couldn't be happier. The hygienists & assistants are also incredibly professional, patient and capable. The front desk, especially Loni, keeps everything running smoothly. I've neglected my dental care for some years, but everyone always puts me at ease. And they are ALL very prepared to deal with someone like me. I'm REALLY sensitive, high-strung & squirmy--AND I gag a lot when they take x-rays or put that icky pink goo in to make impressions. But they just take me and all of my involuntary quirks/issues in stride. And I was just treated by Dr. Markowitz there too, for oral surgery. It took him quite a lot more time to get me anesthetized than it did for him to carry out the actual procedure & put in the sutures. Of course I have issues with lidocaine too! He also put me quite at ease and had good alternatives on hand. I'm really happy with Premiere Dental. Dr. Danzi is the best!"- A.D. / Yelp / Jan 01, 2014
"I went to Primer Dental to inquire about invisalign to correct two spacing issues that I had, a gap in my two front teeth and one on the side. I met with Dr. Steven ritholtz and he looked at my teeth and came up with a treatment plan for me. Seven months later I now have a beautiful smile that I love thanks to Dr. Steven ritholtz and the amazing team at Primer Dental. They were all very accommodating to my schedule and allowed me to go on a payment plan that made it easier to pay for the treatment. I am so happy with my teeth and would highly reccomend this office to anyone looking to get invisalign and any other dental care because they do provide it all here."- C.B. / Yelp / Aug 21, 2019
"Dedicating my first Yelp review ever to the amazingly talented Dr. Galler. Never in a million years did I think I would be leaving a 5 star review for a dental office, but the team at Premier Dental Associates is the absolute best. I recommend them to anyone who will listen. I have never had a bad experience over the past 3 years of being a patient for both cleanings and Invisalign. I recently finished my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Galler and could not be happier with my results! I was a particularly difficult case thanks to a genetic "deformity" in my top and bottom jaw, (seriously just mention my name at your next Invisalign appointment or consultation and he will tell you himself, I am a medical miracle) but Dr. Galler stuck it out with me and provided excellent care. He wasn't the first person to tell me I needed my jaw broken and reset, but he was the first person who I truly believed had my best interest at heart and would be skilled enough to see me through the process and recovery. My "deformity" (which sounds much more dramatic than it was) required orthognathic surgery (the breaking of the top and bottom jaw to be better positioned) and Dr. Galler worked seamlessly with my surgeon at Weill Cornell, Dr Behrman on my plan. If anyone needs this sort of surgery I highly recommend him as well. The entire process took 2.5 years thanks to stopping Invisalign for a few months and starting again post surgery, but the results were absolutely worth the wait. I get compliments all the time and people refuse to believe that my before pictures are even my teeth after seeing what I look like today. I am so grateful for Dr. Galler's expertise and kindness throughout this entire process and journey. I genuinely miss seeing him and Natasha every month. I still can't believe the dramatic difference in my face and side profile. The man is a magician. You will not regret becoming a patient of his."- C.M. / Yelp / Dec 01, 2016
Best Candidates for Dental Exam
Patients of all ages should receive a dental exam by one of our general dentists at least once each year to help maintain good oral hygiene. To make your care as convenient as possible, we often perform exams during your dental cleaning visits. Exams from our skilled team are extremely thorough and interactive as we use the latest in technology to evaluate your oral health with precision and accuracy. Even if you brush and floss well as home and are not experiencing any issues, it is still important to undergo routine dental exams. Many oral health concerns may not display signs or symptoms or cause pain in the early stages. When we have the chance to detect problems sooner rather than later, we can often help you avoid needing more involved treatments.
At PDADental, we treat patients of all ages, including the youngest members of your family, and recommend that you schedule the first visit around ages 2 – 3. During your child's exam appointment, our team will offer tips on how to best care for their oral health and provide information on common concerns, like thumb-sucking, pacifier use, and baby bottle tooth decay. Encouraging good dental health from an early age can help your family establish lifetime oral hygiene habits. Maintaining dental exams as your child grows can help meet their health needs as their jaw develops and teeth erupt.
What To Expect
To begin your exam, our team will review the dental and medical health information you have provided and discuss any oral concerns you may have. Depending on your needs, digital x-rays may be taken and used throughout your exam to check the internal areas of your teeth and jawbone health. After performing a thorough oral cancer screening, we will evaluate the health of your gums, teeth, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), bite, and jaw function. Any fillings, crowns, dentures, or other restorations you may have will also be assessed as we screen for signs of oral damage and tooth decay. One of our dentists or hygienists will measure the spaces separating your teeth and gums to screen for the presence of gum disease. This information will be used along with your x-rays to identify any areas of periodontal concern. When your exam is complete, our team will discuss any findings and offer solutions on how to best manage your oral health. Any treatment recommendations and options or care will also be presented at that time.
Our team at PDADental recommends that patients of all ages have their oral health examined at regular intervals, usually during their routine dental cleaning appointments. We will strive to schedule your exam and follow-up treatment visits for any necessary procedures at a time most convenient for you. In some cases, we may suggest more frequent care if it best serves your oral health and wellness. When you visit our practice for your exams and oral hygiene visits, we will offer tips on the ideal methods for brushing and flossing and taking care of your smile between visits. Approaching oral health on a daily basis with home care and routine dental visits at our New York City, NY office can help keep your treatment needs to a minimum while preserving your long-term oral health.

Our practice accepts PPO insurance plans and will gladly file your family's claims for you.
