Services ( View All )

Overview

Digital x-rays are an essential diagnostic tool we use to thoroughly assess the health of your teeth and jaw and screen for concerns in areas that are hidden by your gum tissues. PDA Dental is dedicated to using the most advanced technology and is pleased to offer low-radiation x-rays to our patients. As a safer, faster, and more comfortable alternative to traditional film, digital x-rays produce around 90 percent less radiation while enhancing our diagnostic ability. X-rays provide our team of dentists the chance to examine the internal areas of the teeth and jaw to check for cavities under restorations and between teeth, bone loss, tooth impactions, tooth positioning, cysts and tumors, abscesses, and a range of other oral issues. Through the use of dental x-rays, we can often detect problems earlier and offer a more conservative approach to care. PDA Dental is pleased to offer this safer, more effective approach to patients of all ages in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, NY area.

Best Candidates

In many cases, digital x-rays are taken during your dental exam and cleaning visits as a preventive service. X-rays may also be taken as needed to assess areas that are problematic or painful and to provide necessary treatment. Our advanced digital x-ray system emits far less radiation when compared with traditional film processes; however, we still take measures to minimize your exposure. While having digital x-rays taken is safe for patients in most situations, even children, we ask that those who are pregnant or believe they may be let us know upon arrival so that precautions can be taken.

What to Expect

Digital x-rays are a fast, simple process and are generally taken at the start of your exam or cleaning visit. To capture these diagnostic images, we will place a small sensor next to your teeth at various locations within your mouth. Once exposed, our high-tech system immediately transfers the images to your chart in our computer system. We will then review your x-rays with you, evaluating your teeth, level of bone, and jawbone health, and let you know of any concerns or treatment needs.

Follow-Up

The frequency at which x-rays are taken may vary upon patients. In general, however, bitewing x-rays are taken yearly and allow us to screen for cavities in between teeth and evaluate the amount of bone supporting your teeth. A full series or panoramic x-ray offers a more comprehensive view of all areas in your mouth or jaw and is taken every 3 – 5 years. Digital x-rays are stored within your permanent patient chart to be utilized to address your current needs and served as baseline data over time to monitor your dental health.

Insurance Coverage

As diagnostic services, bitewing x-rays are typically covered by dental insurances on an annual basis while a panoramic x-ray or full mouth series are covered every three or five years, depending on the plan. Before taking your x-rays, our knowledgeable team will review your benefits schedule and let you know of any out-of-pocket costs. PDA Dental accepts multiple payment options, including CareCredit® financing plans, to make getting the dental care you need as convenient as possible.
