Overview
Helping patients preserve their oral health and save their natural teeth is highly important to us at PDA Dental. While we strive to do everything possible to repair damaged or unhealthy teeth, some conditions are best treated with a tooth extraction. Our board-certified oral surgeon offers simple and surgical tooth extractions to gently remove teeth that are beyond repair, impacted, or no longer supporting your dental health. Using expert skill and a gentle technique, our oral surgery specialist commonly removes wisdom teeth, stubborn baby teeth, teeth broken at the gumline, impacted teeth, and other teeth that must be removed to promote a healthier environment. To keep you comfortable throughout your care, sedation techniques may also be incorporated. If you are near the Financial District in Lower Manhattan, NY and need to have a tooth removed, contact our practice to schedule a visit with our trusted oral surgeon.
Tooth Extractions Reviews
Best Candidates
A number of oral health conditions may be best treated with simple or surgical tooth extraction, including issues like:
- Severely decayed teeth
- Fractured or cracked teeth
- Abscessed teeth
- Extremely worn teeth
- Impacted teeth
- Unhealthy wisdom teeth
- Insufficient space
- Orthodontic needs
Teeth that are visible above the gumline can usually be removed through a simple extraction while impacted (trapped in bone or gum tissue) and challenging teeth are taken out through a surgical approach. Regardless of your family's extraction needs, you can rest assured that our oral surgeon and team will place your comfort and safety first. During your consultation, we can also discuss your options for replacing a functional tooth or teeth, including dental implants, bridges, or dentures, and help you find the right solution for your needs.
What To Expect
Simple, surgical, and wisdom teeth extractions are performed in our state-of-the-art practice. During your treatment consultation visit, we can discuss your options for sedation and local anesthetics and talk with you about how we manage patient comfort during extractions. On the day of your extraction, our surgical team will prepare your mouth and numb the gums, bone, and nerves around your tooth. Our skilled surgeon will then use special instruments to gently lift the tooth from its socket. In some cases, such as for impacted teeth, we may need to make an incision in the gums to reach the tooth or remove the tooth in pieces. We take the most minimally invasive approach possible to minimize trauma to your mouth. Sutures may be used to close the gum tissues and allow the healing process to begin. At the end of your procedure, special instructions on how to manage your recovery and care for your mouth will be provided by our caring team.
Recovery
To facilitate your healing, we urge you to avoid using a straw, smoking, and spitting in the first few days following your tooth extraction. Your body will start to naturally form a clot in the tooth socket, which could become dislodged through one of these activities. Eating a soft food diet while avoiding hot and cold foods and beverages is also recommended in the early phase of recovery. Special post-operative instructions on how to best care for your extraction site(s) can help streamline your recovery process. You may notice swelling in your face and soreness in your jaw, which can often be relieved with cold compresses and nonprescription pain relievers. A follow-up visit with our oral surgeon may be scheduled a week or so after your extraction so that we can evaluate your healing response and let you know when you can proceed with tooth replacement (if needed). It is also important to keep up with your routine preventive care visits at PDA Dental to maintain the health and wellness of your smile.
Insurance Coverage
PDA Dental accepts PPO dental plans, many of which provide coverage toward the cost of general and wisdom teeth extraction procedures. To learn about your specific plan, a member of our billing staff will contact your provider and determine if there will be any covered portion for your procedure. Providing comprehensive, affordable care New York City patients need is highly important to us. As such, we are pleased to offer a range of payment options, including flexible financing through CareCredit®, to help make dental care convenient for your family.
